Rubelis Beyond Instructor · Free
Free Awareness Training
This training is recommended before applying to the Beyond Instructor programme. It is designed to convey the depth of Rubelis's approach to instruction and the transformation it offers. Approximately 30–45 minutes.
To teach is to learn most deeply. But to be ready to teach, you must first learn yourself.
This training is not an exam. It is a mirror.
Before applying to the Rubelis Beyond Instructor programme, we ask you to work through this page — because the best way to understand whether the programme is right for you is to face your own questions. The questions here have no right or wrong answers. But they do have honest ones.
Over the years you have taught hundreds of students to dive. You have the technical knowledge, the experience, the certifications. But have you ever asked yourself: what are my students actually taking away — technical skill, or a genuine relationship with the sea?
The answer to that question sits at the very centre of the Beyond Instructor programme. And this training is an invitation to begin looking for it.

Beyond Philosophy: Why Diving Is Not a Technique
For decades, dive instruction has followed the same logic: teach the student the correct technique, transfer the safety protocols, issue the certification. This approach works — but it is incomplete.
What is missing is this: when a student enters the water, it is not only a body that enters — it is a mind and an emotional world. They carry fear, expectations, past experiences. And that inner world directly affects their technical performance. Beneath an observed performance issue, technical gaps are only one possibility — stress, fear, mismatched expectations, or cognitive load may also be at play.
Rubelis Beyond starts from this reality. It approaches diving not as a technical skill but as a conscious experience. Awareness, observation, silence, and the relationship with the sea — these are at the heart of the programme. Technical competence is a prerequisite, but it is not sufficient.
Underwater, everything slows — time, movement, thought. This slowing is not a constraint; it is an invitation. The instructor who can pass that invitation on to their student is where real learning begins.
In the Beyond philosophy, teaching is not the transfer of information. It is creating space for the student's own experience. This requires the instructor to manage their own inner state, adapt to the student's rhythm, and sometimes know when to do nothing at all.
What does this philosophy look like in practice? When a student panics at 20 metres, the standard instructional reflex kicks in: intervene, surface, keep them safe. Beyond does not reject this — safety always comes first. But Beyond asks further: why did this panic arise? What was the student feeling in that moment? And next time, what could be done before the panic even begins?
BEFORE
Pre-dive / general training
Prevention and preparation. Reading the student's inner state, noticing fear early, building trust.
DURING
In a crisis
Safety protocol ALWAYS comes first — Beyond's observational approach never replaces standard emergency response.
AFTER
Post-dive
Understanding and shared reflection. Why did the panic arise? What could be done differently next time?
Beyond's Four Core Principles
Awareness
Observing the student's body, mind, and relationship with the water. Reading not just what they do, but how they feel. Awareness is the instructor's most powerful tool — and the least taught skill.
Observation
Looking without judgement. Seeing before concluding. Most instructors, while watching a student's movement, are simultaneously thinking "they're doing it wrong." Beyond teaches you to separate these two acts: first see, then evaluate.
Personal assessment
Every student is different. Individual reading rather than standard prescriptions. Two students making the same technical error may have entirely different causes — one from fear, the other from overconfidence. The right response depends on the right reading.
Conscious relationship
The relationship a student forms with the sea shapes their entire life. When a student learns to love the water, this is not just a sporting skill — it is a way of living. The instructor plays a critical role in how that relationship develops.
These principles are not abstract concepts. They take concrete form in every module, every exercise, every assessment in the programme. As you read them now, ask yourself: which of these feels closest to you? Which will challenge you most?
How This Programme Changes Your Instructing Career
Let us be direct: the Beyond Instructor programme does not teach you new techniques. It helps you see the techniques you already know through a different lens. That may sound like a small distinction — but in practice, it is revolutionary.
Instructors who complete the programme notice this: their relationship with their students changes. They no longer ask only "what should they do?" — they ask "why do they feel this way?" And that question accelerates the student's development exponentially.
Beyond takes the skills experienced instructors already develop through years of intuition — and turns them into a systematic, transferable method
Intuitive approach
Student panics → intervene, correct the technique
Beyond approach
Student panics → first observe, then understand together, then address the technique
Intuitive approach
Student is not progressing → make them repeat more
Beyond approach
Student is not progressing → what inner barrier exists? Fear, self-doubt, a wrong expectation?
Intuitive approach
Session ends → student received their certification
Beyond approach
Session ends → what relationship did the student form with the sea? Is it sustainable?
Intuitive approach
Silence = a gap, needs to be filled
Beyond approach
Silence = space, necessary for the student to touch their own experience
Intuitive approach
Success = technical correctness
Beyond approach
Success = the student forming a conscious relationship with the water
This transformation does not only affect your students. It affects you. Instructors who complete the programme report that their own diving experience changes too. When they enter the water, they feel something different — more presence, less need for control, a deeper silence.
The best instructor is the one who sees the student's success as the student's achievement — not their own. That distinction seems small. But it changes everything.
At the end of the programme, you will receive a certificate. But the real gain is not the certificate: it is the moments when your students say "this training changed my life." Those moments are the true measure of Beyond instruction.
What We Expect from a Beyond Instructor
Technical competence is a starting point. Holding an active instructor certification from any recognised organisation is sufficient to apply. But what we look for inside the programme is something different.
Let us be honest: this programme is not for everyone. If you see dive instruction purely as technical transfer and are not ready to change that view, this programme may not be right for you. But if you sense that the relationship you have with your students could be deeper, more meaningful, and more transformative — read on.
Building a genuine relationship with the student
Being able to read a student's fear, curiosity, resistance, and readiness. Distinguishing a technical error from a psychological barrier. This skill develops over years — but first it needs to be noticed. When a student says "I can't do it," what lies behind those words? A real physical limit, or a belief?
Patience and observation — creating space, not intervening
Allowing a student to progress at their own pace. Creating space rather than accelerating. Observing rather than intervening — and knowing when intervention is necessary. This balance is the finest point of Beyond instruction. Intervening too early robs the student of the chance to find their own solution. Intervening too late risks safety. Finding this balance requires experience and awareness.
The ability to ask the right question
Asking rather than telling. Helping the student find the answer within themselves. "Why did you feel that way?" is far more powerful than "You should have done it this way." Because the first helps the student take ownership of their own experience; the second turns them into a passive recipient. The Beyond instructor is the one who asks, not the one who answers.
Knowing and accepting your own limits
Knowing what you don't know. Acknowledging mistakes when they happen. Seeing the student's progress as their achievement, not yours. This is the most critical distinction between ego and instruction. When a student fails, the instructor should question themselves — but that questioning should take the form of curiosity, not guilt.
A genuine readiness to change
Taking this programme not for a certificate, but to genuinely change. Being ready for a turning point in your approach to instruction. This readiness is the most important prerequisite of the programme. Beyond gives you new tools to observe your students' behaviour more systematically. And using those tools requires a mind open to change.
As you read these expectations, did something stir in you? Ease, excitement, or a quiet unease? That feeling is data too. Unease usually points to exactly where growth is happening.
What Awaits You in the Programme?
The Beyond Instructor programme consists of 12 modules. Each module contains both a theoretical and a practical layer of transformation. Modules unlock in sequence — you cannot move to the next until the previous is complete. This structure is intentional: each module prepares the ground for the one that follows.
Programme Structure
Core Philosophy
The origins of Rubelis Beyond, the relationship between diving and consciousness, the instructor's inner world.
Student Psychology
Fear, trust, motivation, and resistance. Reading the student's relationship with the water.
Teaching Methodology
The art of asking questions, the use of silence, individual assessment techniques.
Integration and Application
Taking everything learned into the field, case analyses, building your personal teaching philosophy.
At the end of each module there is a reflection section. You are asked to connect what you have learned to your own instructing practice. Your responses are not assessed — but writing them accelerates internalisation.
At the end of the programme there is an exam: 100 questions, available in both Turkish and English. The exam measures understanding, not memorisation. The questions explore not just what you felt, but what you observed, what you concluded, what you did, why you did it, and what the outcome was.
Instructors who pass the exam receive the Rubelis Beyond Instructor certificate. This certificate is digitally verifiable and can be checked by anyone via QR code.
Reflection Questions
The questions below are for your own self-assessment. Your responses are not sent to us. You do not have to write — but if you do, things become clearer. Each question is directly connected to a module in the programme.
When a student panics, what do they expect from you — and what do you expect from them in that moment? When those two expectations clash, what happens? Have you ever considered the difference between "solving" a panic and "moving through it together"?
Saved
In the past year, has a student ever genuinely surprised you? What did that surprise tell you about their readiness — and about your own?
Saved
What is the difference, in your view, between correcting a technical error and creating a moment of awareness? Telling a student "you did it wrong" versus asking "what did you feel?" — how do these two approaches leave different traces in the student's development?
Saved
Can you recall a moment when you deliberately used silence as a teaching tool? What did the student learn in that silence — and what did you learn? If no such moment exists: why not?
Saved
Has there been a moment when you chose to observe a student's fear rather than "fix" it? Where did that observation lead? Can choosing not to intervene sometimes be the most powerful intervention of all?
Saved
How would you describe the relationship your students form with the water? How much of that relationship do you shape — and where does your role end?
Saved
Have you ever realised, after the fact, that you told a student something that wasn't quite right? How did that realisation change your approach? What is the difference between making a mistake and acknowledging one?
Saved
Which type of student do you find yourself avoiding in your teaching practice — and what does that avoidance tell you? Could that student type be a mirror of an undeveloped part of yourself?
Saved
When you are ready
If you have answered these questions honestly — whether you wrote them down or simply sat with them — you have taken a step. That step comes before the programme itself.
If reading this page made you feel "yes, this is exactly what I was looking for": apply. If you felt "I'm not ready yet": that too is a valuable awareness. You can return to this page at any time.
In the application form, you will be asked to confirm that you have completed this training. This is not a formality; it is a declaration about your own readiness.
Preparing for the Interview
At the heart of the programme is a two-hour one-to-one session where you analyse your own real teaching moments with an experienced instructor — the one part of this you won't find anywhere else online.
As preparation, we'll ask you to reflect on three experiences: your most challenging student, a teaching moment you'd handle differently now, and a moment you felt yourself grow the most.
If you are not ready yet, you can return to this page at any time. Your notes are saved in your browser.
